Team work is critical, and we care about our team. We train them to handle complex situations, to respond well to behaviours that are driven by trauma. We make sure everyone gets the support and debriefing they need. We are proud to invest in a learning culture which allows us to always be reflecting on what went well and how to get the best outcomes, while always thinking of how we can improve.
Michael started working in this field over 35 years ago, working across disability, homeless, child youth and family services and drug treatment service. He began his career working in disability care services, providing front line support for people transitioning from institutional care into the community. That ignited a passion in him for working with people, to help them to have control over their lives and a sense of belonging and connection – ensuring that they can live in a home-like environment.
After that he worked in the homelessness sector and moved into leadership role, including managing Ozanam House. It was there that Michael first saw young people coming straight out of State care into homelessness services. He experienced firsthand the importance of getting in early, working with young people to have hope and expectations for their future, and taking concrete steps to help them get there
In 2011 Michael was awarded the Robin Clark Leadership award, Victoria’s most prestigious Children’s Protection award, recognising a leader who inspires others in achieving the best outcomes for children, young people and their families.
In 2020 Michael was again recognised in the Victorian Child Protection awards – "Making a difference, COVID 2019, emergency response for children and young people".
